Only a little post from me today, I just got back from a work conference on the weekend with a hangover :|

It was a good conference I learnt a lot with my head pounding & dying of thirst for a glass of water, I could almost be mistaken for thinking that the actual workshops were a form of torture for drinking too much wine the night before – yes I had good reason to! I was networking!!!

Soooooooo…… new skins from Curio!! I’m loving all over Autumn right now, she’s very sweet & innocent, apparently something I’m not according to Eclectic so I guess this is me being a devil in disguise.

I love discovering new stores & SySSion is a recent discovery thanks to the Call for Couture. My theme today is Sci Fi so I'm expressing my inner geek (we all have one!). Hair Fair Demo Group

As a way to combat lag this year, we have set up Hair Fair Demo Group. It is an in world group that all of the designers will be sending their demos to on 3rd September. (the notice archives are full as we speak of demos from various designers!) We are hoping that many of you join the group and are able to spend hours prior to the fair trying on all the different styles. Whimsy even wants everyone to have Demo parties, getting together to compare and have fun with styles you may not even otherwise have tried. That way you can go to the fair knowing exactly what hair you want . This group is not *required*, it is an optional thing that may help you if like me, you don't do well in crowds!

This year we have been approached by a "Fashionable Secret Admirer" they will be sponsoring all four sims for Hair Fair 2010.
We are so excited to have them sponsor us, and are looking forward to revealing them in the future.

It is through the kindness of Second Life Residents that each year Hair Fair is one of the most adored, and looked forward to events of the year.

I myself, and the dedicated team behind each years fair, strive to do our best. We also make sure that everyone involved know that what they are doing gives something to Children that has been taken away from them unfairly.

We may never meet these children, will never see what changes it will bring to a childs life...but we will always know in our hearts that it is for them.

So thank you in advance, and thank you for the past. Every single donation, whether it be sim sponsorship, buying one of the charity styles featured at the fair, or buying a bandanna on bandanna day and wearing it with pride...all of that is what makes being part of this community and event a pleasure.

Why we chose Wigs for Kids

Those behind and on the scenes are working so hard to bring you this years Hair Fair 2010. Through the struggles and the intensity that is organising any event in SL, it is always the smallest of things that can move you through mountains. Whether it be a small message on a notecard from the people that have created a bandana - and believe me those notecards have me in tears every year. Or the walking through the event early and seeing that many don't want to donate just one style at 50% but offer more because they choose to.

Sometimes I myself, or other committee members get random IMs from people we have never met before, that are so removed from our usual circles offering their support in any way they can. In the years past we have had people hold bandana day parties at clubs and workplaces. Had people ask to post our info on their own blogs in RL just so that their own readers who couldn't attend would know a little more about the Charity we choose to give to in the end.

Hearing from content creators that it was Hair Fairs past that inspired them to attend the next years as a creator, all of those things just make every single blow a little easier to take. But nothing at all is as hard as it must be to see a child suffer, a child made to feel different through nothing they are responsible for, and nothing they can do to stop.

A man called Jeffrey Paul had his own niece crying on his shoulder asking for help 25 years ago, and that one request has lead to not only helping her, but to go on to help many children and families cope through trying times. Being ill is bad enough, but once recuperating or going through treatment, a child should never for one moment have to feel that they aren't the same as every other child. Wigs for Kids gives a sense of sameness back to these children and for me that is a Charity to help...one that will not ask you who you are, or what you do, will not stack up the figures to see if you qualify for help, as long as you are a child in need you do...

We finally were able to open up the sims to the Hair Creators, and they have all just loved the build, which we are totally excited about. The great thing is that the designers have also embraced the lag prevention we put into place by this year making the four sims two lots of two, as well as the overall design of the booths and how they are set up, thanks to our builder, who is also the sponsor.

Before I go into the details of that, I want to also share the information that is a first for Hair Fair, and is such a huge deal for us. This year the representative of Wigs for Kids will be in world sharing this experience with us, and we are overjoyed to have him be a part of this monumental event. Also so encouraging to us as a Charity Event is the fact that they also added it to their events section on their website, so in Whimsy Speak that makes us Legitimicated. http://www.wigsforkids.org/content/events We are so proud to be able to give to such an incredibly worthwhile Charity, and that they have the faith in us from our communications over these past months, to include us in their website is just great.

Now back to the two lots of two sims. Over the years of our experience with Hair Fair, there are a few stand out issues that occur repeatedly. The first is that we have lost every sim for a down time of sometimes minutes, and last year hours. This is due to the pressure on the servers of the combined sims, with so much going on on all of them at once. The other stand out issue has been that up to at least 20 people on every sim spend a minimum of 15 minutes pushing into the sims next door, so the pressure is on both sims at once. That means that up to, or possibly more than 80 people are just in limbo when others could be tping in. To get to the other two sims you will need to tp again, but you do get the ability to do two sims at once, and hopefully all four will stay online for the duration. This was a choice made very early on in the setting up of Hair Fair long before we even found a sponsor as it was something discussed at meetings and in IMs, even when queries for sim rentals were approached. All four sims regardless of draw distance load into your viewer if you are close to the borders regardless of build type, and we wanted to help in whatever way necessary to prevent that...at one stage we were even considering elevating each sim to a different height, but that would have made sim crossing way too comical. It was actually due to Accessory Fair, and their use of two sims that made it register how much easier it was on the computer.

One of the most exciting days of Hair Fair has always been Bloggers Day - this year it will be 3rd September. Exciting for the committee because it is a test run for the event, and exciting for the designers as their new releases are revealed to people from all over the world. In the hopes that they will share their creations through blog posts with amazing pictures and delightful insights.

This year we are making sure that enough notice is given for bloggers from all over Second Life to apply for admission to that event. It is limited in numbers, because the sims themselves have avatar limits, and there are many hundreds of bloggers.

Priority will be given of course to bloggers that did a lot of posts on the event last year, as well as those that feature and give credit to hair in their posts all year round. The bloggers must also be regular bloggers, with visible posts crediting them as author.

All bloggers applying will have to provide a link to their blogs, as well as a minimum of three blog posts relating to either Hair Fair past, or Posts that they feel are focused towards hair - no editing of previous posts. Full Avatar name, as well as flickr link if you have one.

All applications are to be done in the comments of the post on the Hair Fair blog HERE , the comments are moderated, the info will not show to the public. ONLY the committee will see the applications, this is not meant to be a cattle call, but we do not want to miss out on anyone due to Second Life lag, and the possible misdirection of notecards.

If you are not a fashion blogger, but an events blogger, who would like to do a feature on the event, please apply, we would love to see the event covered as a whole, including info about the charity Wigs for Kids etc.

You must have your comment application in by the 10th of August, as preparations for the event will need to be organised, and invitations sent out.Only one blogger per blog may be accepted due to limits.

The Hair Fair 2010 Application is now available. Please make sure that you read all the Rules and the FAQ Page for all information on being a participant in this years Hair Fair. If you have any questions regarding the process please send them by email to hairfairsl@gmail.com and a Hair Fair Committee Member will get back to you as soon as possible.

We are so excited to be donating the proceeds of this years fair to Wigs for Kids, a wonderful charity that helps children in need. You can find information about Wigs for Kids on their website HERE.

Many of the previous participants have already filled in their applications for their booths, so make sure not to delay. The faster you get your application sent in, the higher the chance of getting your spot. The fee will not be charged until you are accepted and invited to the group, and prim counts will be based on the numbers we receive from all applicants, as is the case every year. In four years though we have never had anyone not have enough, no matter what size booth they take :).

Our Sponsors this year are still a big Secret, but the "Secret Admirer" is getting closer to being revealed, which we are so excited about. With their help we plan on having many treats for you at Hair Fair 2010. Not only will they be donating the sims, but are also building the booths and ambiance for us, which is a huge task and we are so appreciative of them for that.

Unfortunately the Subscribomatic that was previous used has not been transferred over in time for this years event, so if you joined it last year or prior to the last month, please make sure and visit one of the two locations HERE and HERE and subscribe again for up to date info on Hair Fair 2010. As usual our Flickr Contest will take place prior to opening, so keep your eyes open for announcements regarding that.

Applications must be submitted before June 30th so do not delay. Send in your applications ASAP as space is limited.

For free updates for an existing set, tp to VR Foundry @ The Deck. Wear your stand and/or HUD and a new one for each will be sent to you.

What is NEW in 3.0 (on top of all the regular features.)

Libraries!
    - Up to 250 libraries in one posestand.
    - Libraries are created on the fly by loading animations into a prim generated by the posestand
    - Sorted alphabetically
    - Can be selected from either the posestand itself or through the HUD (use the "L" button)
    - 2 formats for displaying library spheres from the posestand.
    - Add or remove poses to a library at any time by changing the library prim inventory.
    - Delete a library by unlinking it from the posestand and deleting the prim.

Pose Control
    - 6 posestand channels (up from 4)
    - click and hold on a posestand channel to disconnect from the linked posestand
    - new quick recall button to quickly return to the previously displayed pose
    - button layout improved
    - sit position and rotation can be adjusted on the fly
    - avatar moves, not the posestand
    - new hud rotation ring allows for quick, accurate rotation changes
    - new keyboard control options:
; full (same as before)
; abridged (only shift+L/R arrows to change poses)
; off
    - spin now revolves in either direction with 2 speed settings

Photo Sphere/Lighting
    - new color control system based on HSV allows for precise color adjustments
    - sphere and lights rez higher over the posestand (posestand is no longer inside the sphere)
    - sphere and lights rez in correct place when posestand is tilted.
    - fixed issue causing spere to fail to initialize under some circumstances when region hadn't been restarted recently.

Memory
    - 6 memory presets (up from 4)
    - new "quick lock" button creates a camera preset (independant of posestand links) with a single click
    - click and hold a memory button for half a second to clear it
    - camera position now saved and recalled relative to the active linked posestand if it is in the same sim
    - help button for quick access to feature explanations

Updating
    - Version 3.0 checks for updates automatically from anywhere on the grid, so you'll get any updates immediately!
    - Future stand updates will include an updater tool for the scripts in your existing stand making updates painless.

Performance
    - the HUD now has an idle script time of 0.042ms (less than half of the 2.x HUDs)
    - reduced the number of scripts in the posestand base

Builder's Poses
    - now includes a library called "Builder's Poses" with 7 animations useful for building and animation testing avatar accessories

New Tool: no copy hunter
    Some people have run into the issue that they accidentally put a no copy animation into a posestand which had thousands of animations in it, thus making the entire posestand no copy. Trying to scroll through thousands of animations to find the one or two that are no copy takes an eternity and is usualy fruitless. I'm including a script which you can drop into a library that will check the permissions of all its animations. When it finds a no copy animation, you can either have it give the animation back to you, delete it, or ignore it.
